Drum Body and Sound Body Wisdom have been used in a variety of educational settings.
The nature of this work allows students to work closely in creating material, developing new skills, being vulnerable and giving/receiving support. Everyone meets their ‘edge’ and finds their strengths and challenges creating a balance in the group dynamic. Students find teamwork and energy that can be compared to team sports but without the competitive flare. They also build incredible self-confidence in achieving things they didn’t think were possible both individually and as a group.
This has been true across the board with middle school, high school, public and Montessori. Some of the original work was with inclusion programs in middle schools to help bridge the gap of discrimination between general education and special needs students.
The work has also been used to support the learning happening in the classroom. The repetition of patterns and counting has assisted in Math classes and the use of mnemonics (words as memory devices for rhythm) in English classes.
Teachers have also reflected that student’s concentration
was improved after DB or SBW sessions.
